Some Days You Just Can’t Get Rid of A Bomb

Haven’t left the house much lately. I managed to obtain a dvd set of the original Batman TV series(1966-68) which contains all 120 episodes. It’s so addicting. The first day I had it I watched 16 episodes. Around 1987, they re-aired the show on cable and I would watch it everyday after school between 5 and 6 pm. One thing I found striking as I watch these again, is that I never remembered them being so violent. People actually get killed in some of the shows(Jill St John falls into a nuclear power reactor in the first episode, “Hi Diddle Riddle.”) A lot of the villains are really portrayed well, and sometimes you even find yourself rooting for them. They usually outsmart Batman most of the time until he wins in the end. I always seemed to identify with Batman as he leads a double life and his villains especially, since they tend to be troubled and eccentric narcissists in search of the big score.

Julie Newmar as Catwoman is really hot. I’m always rooting for her and Batman to end up together, yet Batman’s integrity always seems to get in the way.

I definitely enjoy the old tv show more than any of the newer Batman movies. And yes I know the movies are meant to be darker like the original comics, but I just don’t like them. The show has way more of a comic book vibe, hotter girls, and better actors (Burgess Meredith as Penguin, Cesar Romero as Joker, Roddie Mcdowell as Bookworm etc etc.) Just as Sean Connery was the best Bond, Adam West is the superior Batman. The theme song is a 60’s classic and one of my all time favorites.

Check out Batman dancing: (I hear he shakes a mean cape!)
