city connection was a game for nintendo
By Brandon Adamson
So for the first time ever I’ve been reading through the craigslist “missed connections” board. I’m surprised to see so many of them, and in places that I frequent regularly…which makes me wonder if over the years anyone’s ever posted one of me in my lengthy career of wandering around diabolically. Now I have no illusions and know that if someone ever did post a missed connection of me….it would never be a remarkably attractive girl but more likely a fringe homosexual male who somehow mistakenly thought we had “made a connection” through some sort of awkward eye contact or briefly irritating exchange. It does appear to be mostly gays who post those anyway…with the exception being the occasional douchy, unoriginal and wacktastically gross heterosexual males..“girl in the red mustang on the 101 you have dark hair and are very cute I wanted to wave but you never looked over.” Remotely attractive girls simply do not have time to post missed connections or other nonsense. They already have more dudes than they know what to do with, and some other guy is texting them and they are being chatted up by some other random scuzzbucket two seconds after you make your supposed connection with them. It’s important to keep these things in perspective. And one thing’s for sure, most girls would be super creeped out if someone they didn’t know posted an ad saying that they saw them somewhere and wanted to get to know them better, even if they actually were initially interested. Your best bet is either to make the connection and get it right the first time(like the Billy Joel song) or find someone else and make a connection with them…and if you happen to run into the girl again don’t an idiot and blow it this time. Or you can do what I do, and just give them some promotional material, and if they bother to track you down on the internet then they just might possibly be interested. Right now though all I hear is whatever the cellphone equivalent sound of crickets chirping would be…something along the lines of vibrating with what would turn out to be nothing more than an automated spam text message from AT&T.
Get it Right the First Time Billy Joel
I don’t believe in first impressions
For just this once I hope that looks don’t deceive
I ain’t got time for true confessions
I’ve got to make the move right now
Got to meet that girl somehow
Get it right the first time
That’s the main thing
I can’t afford to let it pass
Get it right the next time
That’s not the same thing
Gonna make the first time last.
I’m not much good at conversation
I never was much good at comin’ on real strong
If all it takes is inspiration
Then I might have just what it takes
If I don’t make no bad mistakes and I
Get it right the first time
Cause that’s the main thing
Can’t afford to let it pass
Get it right the next time
That’s not the same thing
Gonna make the first time last
I might find the courage yeah I might get up the nerve
Oh but if my timing ain’t just right what purpose would that serve?
I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know how
To say those first few words
If I want to put myself in touch
The first few moments mean so much
So I suppose it’s now or never
Before that woman walks right out of my life
Just let me pull myself together
I’ve got to give it one good try
Gotta take my chance tonight
Get it right the first time
That’s the main thing
I can’t afford to let it pass
Get it right the next time
That’s not the same thing
Gonna make the first time last.
